So far in the war on terror, the people in two of the world's worst tyranniesAfghanistan and Iraqhave been liberated. Both countries are being rebuilt, even as the fighting continues. The good effects of these regime changes will be felt for generations to come. Regrettably, the real significance of these events is often diminished by the reporting from the region and lost in the coverage of the daily travails of war. What is at stake is not simply the future of Iraq and Afghanistan, but the real possibility that extremists in the Middle East will be less able to conduct their vile work. To help us understand the massive importance of the changes taking place, the Ashbrook Center has sent Robert Alt to Iraq. He arrived in March and will stay there until the end of July, including the time of the formal transition to a sovereign Iraqi government. He writes columns that have appeared in newspapers and magazines nationwide, and he posts daily updates on the Ashbrook Center's web site, No Left Turns.
Robert's mission is an important one and it deserves the support of all who recognize the importance of America's work in Iraq. Please donate today and help the Ashbrook Center keep an honest voice on the frontlines of the war on terror.
