If you are interested in studying politics or history, Ashland University is a particularly good choice for you. Not only will you have the opportunity to study in an outstanding liberal arts academic program, you also have the chance to become an Ashbrook Scholar.

The Ashbrook Scholar program is a scholarship program for students studying political science, history, pre-law, international relations, or social studies education at Ashland University. Students in the program receive a $2,000 scholarship that is renewable annually.

Ashbrook Scholars take part in a rigorous academic program embedded in the liberal arts tradition that involves the study of the great works of Western Civilization and America. They read the works of our greatest thinkers and the speeches and writings of our noblest statesmen. Ashbrook Scholars are challenged in the classroom, and it truly is a serious program for serious students.

There are also extraordinary challenges and opportunities outside the classroom. Ashbrook Scholars participate in private, off-the-record discussions with all of the speakers brought on campus by the Ashbrook Center. Recent speakers include Clarence Thomas, George Will, Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher, Colin Powell, Karl Rove, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Glenn Beck, among many others. They have fourteen to sixteen such meetings each year. The Ashbrook Center also assists the Ashbrook Scholars in finding internships around the world, sends them to conferences, and publishes a journal of their writings on public affairs, Res Publica.
