Kate OBeirne is National Reviews Washington Editor. She writes principally about Congress politics and domestic policy. She is a regular on CNNs Capital Gang, appears as a substitute host on CNNs Crossfire and is a featured contributor to CNNs Inside Politics.
Before joining National Review in 1995, OBeirne was vice president of government relations at The Heritage Foundation, responsible for keeping Washington policymakers abreast of Heritage Proposals and research findings in all areas of the Foundations study, while serving as a contributing editor of the National Review.
OBeirne previously served as Heritages deputy director of domestic policy studies, where she supervised studies in the areas of health care, welfare, education and housing. From 1986 to 1988 she was deputy assistant secretary for legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services.
A native of New York, OBeirne began her political career when she worked on James Buckleys successful U.S. senatorial campaign and served as a staff assistant in his Senate office.
OBeirne also worked for the New York Senate, received her J.D. degree from St. Johns University and practiced law in New York.
