Walter Raymond, Jr. Assistant Director with the United States Information Agency, was named Senior USIA Coordinator for the President’s Eastern European Program in August, a time of monumental change in one of the world’s most strategic regions.
Mr. Raymond works closely with USIA elements to ensure effective implementation of the Eastern European Program and utilization of Agency capabilities in support of national policy objectives in this area. Also, he coordinates the USIA’s effort with key elements of the foreign policy community and private sector.
Mr. Raymond joined the USIA as Assistant Director in 1987 after serving in the White House as Special Assistant to the President and as the National Security Council’s Senior Director for international Information and Communications from 1982 to 1987.
His lengthy career in government has been concentrated on European and Soviet affairs and East-West issues. He has overseas assignments in Paris, London and Munich.
Mr. Raymond is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and holds a graduate degree from Yale University.
